Angela Barker is a Registered Nurse who graduated in 2004 from UT Pan American with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She began her career in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. Then she moved to San Antonio to work for Maxim Healthcare Services, a national company that specializes in providing Private Duty Nursing for pediatric and adult patients where she served as the Administrator. As the Administrator, one of her responsibilities was to investigate any allegations of abuse, neglect, or exploitation, as well as sentinel events (when patient passed away or was injured while under our care), in order to uncover the facts and present them to the HR and Legal department for recommendations.
With the experience that she has as a Registered Nurse and the investigation skills that she acquired from being an Administrator, she decided to transition to Legal Nurse Consulting. As a Legal Nurse Consultant and the Owner of Covenant Legal Nurse Consulting, she helps attorneys Nationwide make sense of medical records. Covenant takes attorneys step by step through the medical record so that they can have a better understanding of the medical aspects and determine the best strategy for their case. Identifying and locating expert witnesses is also a service that Covenant provides to help strengthen the case.
Not only did Angela serve as the Administrator but she also held the position of Clinical Manager, Operations Manager and was an integral part in the creation and management of the therapy division.
The San Antonio Office was Medicare Certified and Deemed Status with Accreditation Commission for Health Care (ACHC) and went through survey every 3 years. Angela is very familiar with having to address areas of opportunity that are identified during a survey and developing a Plan of Correction. When there is a process breakdown, it's important to identify the root cause in order to prevent future reoccurrences. Maxim had a robust QAPI committee that was responsible for evaluating trends and identifying solutions.
With the experience that she has in Operations, Clinical and Therapy, she can utilize her expertise to assist pediatric home health agencies with audits, investigations, creation of a Plan of Correction, investigation into negative patient outcomes, administrative tasks and other assistance that may be needed.
Community involvement is important to Angela, so she volunteers at her church in the Women’s ministry, Kid’s ministry, Host/Greeter team and any community outreach activities. She is a member of The San Antonio Chapter of BNI (Business Networking International). In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her friends and family.
